Water Well in South Sudan: $13,000 - Funded

Organization: Global Orphan Relief
Country: South Sudan
Mission Focus Area: Safety & Sustainability

This project will provide funding for a water well for a Aweil Town Primary School in South Sudan, Africa. This is our first project with brand new partner, Global Orphan Relief.

This project serves our mission focus of sustainability and will support 251 orphaned children.

Global Orphan Relief shared the following project information with us:

“The purpose of the Aweil Town Water Project is to provide clean water nearby the school in this village location.  We do not provide meals at this location currently, but clean water in the first phase of long-term development for this school.

This school currently host a student body of 709 vulnerable children, of which 251 are orphaned.  Our plans would include provisioning an estimated 14,180 meals each month from this location.

According to the United Nations on 11 March 2022, “More than 70 percent of South Sudan’s population will struggle to survive the peak of the annual ‘lean season’ this year, as the country grapples with unprecedented levels of food insecurity caused by conflict, climate shocks, COVID-19, and rising costs, the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) warned on Friday.”

Children are especially vulnerable, and orphan children even more so, as they lack the necessary advocates to provide life-sustaining food during levels of acute food insecurity at the peak of the lean season from May to June.

Once water is secured, we should be able to begin distribution of meals within ninety days.”
